I have a ford fiesta mark 6. when it gets hot there is a noise coming from the nearside of the engine. its not continuous but intermitant. i suspect it might be a dry bearing in the alternator. i tried the old trick of a long screwdriver to listen to it, and it does seem to be coming from the alternator, but i`m not too sure. i considered the water pump but dont think it`s that. any sugestions would be welcome.

Take off the fan belt and run it for a minute, long to verify the noise is gone. while it is off, check the water pump pulley, and alternator for wear or noise.
