Ford fairlane temperature/head gasket?
I have bought an na fairlane and the temp gauge sits about half way, even after shortly starting the car.is this normal for this model or does this indicate an insue - maybe the head gasket?
Answer
It may be normal;but i would change the thermostate myself first, and check the distance of the fan to the radiator may need to get a spacer and bolts to get the fan closer to pull more air through the rad to cool it more,if it has a fan clutch it may be bad causing the fan to free-wheel more than pull air to cool rad;(about $35.00 for a new one) then check further .what to look for_____ [old fashioned but good method without being invasive to the engine till you get an idea of what is hapening ]_____bubbles in the radiator in a full system (possible head gasket failing).oil in your coolant shows up floating on top of cold anti-freeze and is always dark in color(failing head gasket).anti-freeze in your oil shows up grey if small problem, and shows up looking like chocolate milk if it is a major problem .
