I am considereing the escape hybrid but my friend thinks it a waste of money for the 4wd. we will be living in the seattle area, which is know for its rain and sometimes snow. i am planning on lots of mountain driving and camping trips and such so i thought it would be beneficial to do some light off roading. would the fwd be to get us down a muddy dirt path up the side of a mountain?

It is worth it is weight in gold when you need it. if you plan on doing some camping, you will wish you had it.
