When i put it in 4x4 i cannot put it back in 2wd. once the truck sits for a while and cools down it goes back no problem. i can drive it in 4x4 and have the shifer in 2wd and sometimes it jumps into 2wd on it is own but not all the time. any suggestions for this problem?

Sounds like the shift linkage is binding,either it needs to be cleaned an lubed.also was the truck lifted recently? if so,they shop may not have lenghthend the shift lever causing it to bind.also a possibility your fluid could be low.
