The joints are actually part of the shaft, and there is one that extends on your vehicle from the each side of the transmission out to each wheel. they basically connect the transmission to the wheels. if they are in need of replacement, sometimes you are better to replace the entire shaft, because the part is a little more money, but the labour is considerably less.
