Chevrolet 8 lug wheel question - 2004 wheels on a 1978?

I have a 1978 chevrolet k20 3/4 ton 4wd pickup. it has 8 lug wheels. will 8 lug wheels off of a newer silverado 2500 (8 lug) fit on my old 1978? the local chevrolet dealer says no, but the tire/wheel place says yes.
