2002 bmw 325xi rims?

Hi, i am looking to upgrade the rims on my 2002 bmw 325xi and i have no idea what kind of rims will fit this car. what should i be looking for in rims, ie. 18" 5 bolts... and what the heck is an offset? do i have to make any adjustments if i get 18"? how big can i go before i need to make some modifications to my car. thanks in advance
