Audi

The service insp light came on in my audi a4, what should i do?

The car is a 1999, and i bought it used, does this light just come on after a certain amount of miles? some people have said to just reset it if i normally get the car serviced.which i do, any suggestions on whether this is a critical light to be on?
Answer
The warning light insp means inspection, so the car is due for service inspection. the instrument cluster does this calculation based on numerous factors, i.e. mileage travelled within certain period, fuel and oil consumption etc. inspection is determined based on mileage or period, that is eg.15k miles or 12 months which ever comes first.so you need to carry out service inspection on the car, that is apart from oil,oil filter, fuel filter and airfilter replacments etc, you need to do visual inspection both above and below the car for fluid or exhaust leakages, wear and tear, potential failure of certain hoses,eg. drive shaft boots etc. take preventive action. after all the above tasks, the instrument cluster must be reset (telling that insp has been done.).it involves the use of scan l and certain adaption channels numbers to do the reset, when done successfully, the light will go off until the next insp service is due.you could do this task yourself, and may be visit a dealer to do the reset for you, or any other suitable scan l could be used.niceluck!
