Car Repair

Car wont start for 10 minutes, then its fine. intermittent problem.?

Randomly my car, 2006 saturn ion, will not start. when i turn the key, all the accessories turn on but aboslutely no sound from the engine. it doesnt crank (i think thats the term) or anything. my radio, lights, and all other electronics work fine. i found that after approximately 10 minutes, the car will start up fine. i have an aftermarket stereo in my car, that is the only modification. this includes deck, speakers, and amplifiers. any suggestions on things to check? i plan on taking it to the dealer, but i would like to use that as a last resort. the dealer screwed me over with a previous repair, so i am trying to diagnose the problem myself. thank you!-i have never bothered to check if the steering wheel is locked, but i do not think it is. i will check next time.-i will try putting it in neutral. dont think i have tried that yet. thanks-as far as all those other possibilites, those are something i am not able to check myself so i may be stuck with going to the dealer. do you think it could be related to my strereo? because then it may not be covered under warrenty since i added an aftermarket stereo.thanks eone so far!-oh i forgot to mention. as far as a lose wire, i could see that being a problem. i have a powerful subwoofer setup in the trunk that rattles ething in my car. maybe i have rattled a wire lose someplace? is it something i can check?
Answer
When the car does not start, try jogging a jumper wire directly from the battery to the solenoid wire of the starter - if it turns the engine over, then the problem is in your ignition switch (the start position only). for that you will need to have the ignition switch changed out (this is relatively inexpensive). if the jumper yields no help, i would suspect the solenoid on the starter (replace the starter). i had a toyota like this years ago, and i got gray hair over it before i finally pinpointed the ignition switch. nice luck with yours.
