Car Speakers

I am installing 2 12" kicker subs in my car, i purchased a sub box to enclose these. i heard somewhere that if you switch out the wiring that was included in the sub box the sound quality would be better.. is this true?

Think of it as trying to squeeze 100 gallons of water thru a straw instead of a garden hose. 10 guage will be perfect.
