Would there be switches on car amplifiers to change the ohm setting?
Im planning to have four jbl gto607c components on my car powered by a sony xm-554zr amplifier. the jbl components are rated at 2 ohms and the amplifier specs say it can be tuned to 2 or 4 ohms. can someone clarify if amplifiers will have switches to change the output at 2/4 ohms and will a 2 ohm amplifier to a 2 ohm speaker will drain my car battery ?
Answer
Some amps are able to switch ohms. i looked up the info on that amp and its stable at 2 ohms. 65w x 4 @ 2ohms. so run the components right into the amp, they will be going in @ 2 ohms. you should be fine make sure to set the gains and the crossovers on the high pass, becouse you dont want the low frequiences. as fas as the 2ohms pulling more current, im not sure it will pull more, but i dont think it will. components dont pull as much as a sub. you should be fine.
