Car Battery

Ok, so i am a stuipd female and my husband is in the hospital! my car died last night. it started fine when i left work, i turned my car off when i got home, then 10 minutes later it would not start. we tried to jump it, but it would not turn over, it tried but would not start. as soon as we took off the jumper cables, the lights worked but the car would not even try to start. does this sound like the battery to anyone? why would it die so quickly? would not i have had trouble before the battery died?

Does the vehicle turn over, or when you turn the key, nothing happens? it could be a starter motor.
