Toyota

Toyota truck problem.?

I have a 1ton toyota truck (not a dually) it has a celica trans from an 85 celica in it the speedometer is off by 10 mph over i need it to be 10 mph under. the reason bieng it needs to be 10mph under is because i got a ticket for 15 over and i need to switch out my speedo gear so i can get it calibrted and save my self a couple extra bucks. i need a gear thats gonna drop me 20 mph what should i tell the dealership to look for. im trying to knock a few extra mph off the ticket im 23 and ive only got 1 speeding ticket. i drive all the time on the interstates and nvr ever have a problem at all. i got lost near virginia tech and i have nvr been there before i just wanted to find a familiar road and get some fucking sleep because i had been on the road since early that morning. i wasnt paying attention to the signs. ive allready got a lawyer and appealed it. ive moved from va and now live in pa. ive got a damn good jopb up here and i just wanna leave va behind me. i need to do what ever i can to get out of this. right now im facing taking a drivers class on a saturday in va and having more points added to my liscense. i hadf a good fucked up 2 yrs cause i couldnt find a job in that crummy ass state. so now ive gone from making 10000 a yr to making 50000 and im not letting that state drag me down anymore. so can i take the speedo gear out of a 84 to 89 4 runner or 4x4 and drop my speedo by 20 mph. so its10 undr
Answer
I was a toyota parts person for a number of years.... the problem with toyota is they only build about 3 gears for each application. the stock one, one to over-drive the speedo and one to under-drive it. i highly doubt that you are going to find what you need at the dealership. my suggestion to you is this. look for a shop in your area that specializes in speedometer repair. they will have different sources for the gears and may be able to come up with the one you need to correct your speedometer and get things right again. they are going to need to look at the vehicle in person. they need to calculate tire size, rear end ratio, final drive ratio in transmission and how many teeth your speedo drive gear has, so they can go up or down in teeth to recalibrate your truck. nice luck. i hope this helps get you pointed in the right direction.
