Volvo

Volvo in mid-1980´ies. why called "boxy"?

It always puzzles me, why volvo back then, the 740 gle model, for example, was called "boxy car" for its angled looks, thus emphasizing it on volvo, while vast majority of us cars back then were not less boxy (the horror of design of those years, god!! i see all those police academies and other us flicks from eighties - horrendous by looks, but "boxy" -its volvo and no mistake! :)))
Answer
I think the term came from europe (and probably britain specifically), where volvo was pretty much the only boxy car, eextremelybody else over there was in the jelly mould shape. most american cars were not selling over there, and those that did had a different more rounded model than those sold domestically.
