Mass air meter costs about $300-400 new and takes about 20 minutes to replace max- in fact, with a few tools, you could do the job easily. the meter cannot be cleaned since the problem is generally electronic and not simply mechanical. i would get a used part from a salvage yard since the car is this old. used meters run about $125-150... try ebay or an after-market version. also, when you replace the meter, be sure to clean the hoses and air fllter out before replacing the device. do not, as one person suggested, replace the car because of this. gluck!
