Help! accidentally added a little regular fuel to diesel engine!?
I was driving home on christmas eve, and accidentally added a little over half a gallon of regular fuel to my volkswagen jetta turbo diesel before i realized my mistake. i filled the rest of the tank with diesel and since it was christmas eve and i still had about 100 miles to go, i kept on driving. i forgot about it, but now the check engine light has come on. no problems starting or cycling
or anything.
the check engine light. will this hurt my car, or does the light come on because of the difference in the little bit of fuel?
actually, i did add about 4 oz. of diesel fuel conditioner into the tank as soon as i realized my mistake. i thought that might help a little. thanks!
Answer
Should not
be
to hurt it, however it is hard on injectors. i would keep adding fuel to keep it full for a while, you may want to have the filter changed. gas will break crud loose in the engine, and it may take it a little while to straighten out. you may have to have the ecm. reset to take take of the light. try unhooking the batteryfor a couple of minutes and see if that resets it. truck drivers run some gasoline with their diesel up north when its
cold to keep them from freezing up. i dont think you have added
to hurt it.
