Answer
If you are comparing 2006 bikes the fz6 competitor/ rival is the sv650. i have just bought the fz6 after a similar evaluation. the fz6 is a race bike with a more comfortable upright handlebars and an upper ferring. the suzuki sv650 has 2 models both with torquier but less horsepower v-twins. both shows the naked motor; the sport model has the racing (lean over) handle bar position while the non sport has upright handlebars but no upper ferring. i choose the yamaha because it felt like a bigger bike, it seemed better for a second rider, it had the upright handle bars with upper ferring, and i thought the under seat exhaust looked great. i am happy with it. on the flips side, if you are shorter guy or like the maneuverability of a smaller bike you might be happier with the sv.
