Skoda

Skoda octavia?

I have received a letter from my local skoda dealer telling me that the thed belt and idler pulley and tensioner must be changed when the car is 4 years old. has anyone else had a similar letter or do they just want to do more unnecessary work?
Answer
Sounds like a timing belt, this is usually replaced based on mileage not on time but skoda probably guesses that after 4 years you have enough mileage to replace the belt, check the owners man ual. and yes every car has a timing belt, a few cars have a chain which does not need to be replaced. if the belt breaks you could bend your valves if its an interference type engine.
