98 saab convertible 2.3 non-turbo 95,000 miles dies while driving.?
I just had the alternator replaced about 6 months ago. it was obvious due to the light on the dash warning of the problem.my car is now dying with all of the indicator gauges going to zero as if the car was being turned off at the ignition switch. with these symptoms could it be a di problem or most likely a worn out ignition switch?if the coil was responsible, would the gas gauge and others go to zero when car dies?thank you.scott
Answer
You most likely have one of two issues. both being heat related in nature. first, you may have a crank position reference sensor going bad on you. if your car restarts after a cooling period and drives normally until it dies again, this is a nice indicator of the this sensor being bad. it sometimes will cause the dash to go flat also. the second item is the ignition switch itself, the electrical portion. saab uses a dual power system. if when you turn the key to start your car and it cranks but the dash is dark and the car does not start. this is your culprit. if you are mechanically inclined you could do either job your self. i can walk you through it if you decide to try it. any other questions, just drop me a note. nice luck.
