I am looking to buy a renault laguna initiale diesel. either a 52, 53 or 54 reg. i have read a lot about how unreliable and problematic they are . in all honesty are they really that bad and what are the common faults with them. do things go wrong e day.

They do have a few known faults, but they are not necessarily e day things. the egr valves give problems. the rear axle bushes split and then you get a knocking noise from the rear of the car. the front lower ball joints wear out quickly. the fuel injectors fail. the turbos fail and sometimes take the engine with it. gearboxes have bearing problems. rear brake calipers sieze up. its not looking good is it.! having said all that the laguna 2 phase two was much better, so if you are going to get one get the facelifted version. due to there being problems with the early models, you should get a lot of car for your money.
