Pontiac

Why wont my 1964 pontiac catalina fire? i have changed plugs ,wires ,points, and coil?

I even ran a hot wire from the batery to the coil and still cant get fire to the plugs. it turns over good not to fast. points are set.have also put on a new condenser
Answer
Check valve timing.place crankshaft @ tdc according to the mark on the harmonic balancer.when @ top of the compression stroke, the distributor should be pointing @ #1 on the distributor cap. if that is correct.check inside the distributor.there is a short braided ground strap between the distributor and the advance plate (that the points&condensor are mounted to).when the vacuum advances the timing ,this plate moves.after several miles, this braided strap flexes that it breaks and there is no longer a ground to the primary ignition.
