Pontiac trans am automatic question?
2000 trans am, the paperwork says that "d" is used for normal driving, and that "3" can be used for more power, but less fuel economy, such as uphill. can this only be used for going up hills and such, or can it be used to increase straight line acceleration or drags.
also, does anybody know what the 0-60 or any other acceleration times are for the automatic transmission? all the ones i have
seen are for the 6 speed.
5.7l v8 w/ ram air. 320hp
Answer
Yea d does stand for normal driving and such. 3 is used for uphill to gain more torque to go uphill. in vehicles with manual transmission it is the same thing as them putting it in a lower gear...that is the same thing in an automatic when you go from "d,3,2,1" you can use 3 if your allready driving 50, and it will give you a lower gear which will respond with more power and optimum performance for your car, if you race. if your coming off a start at a light or wherever...you can go from 1,2,3, then "d". i know this because i have a 2002 pontiac firehawk and it is automatic. dont be under estimated of an auto car...just get gears and youll be fine!! most dragsters these days are using auto trans anyway, cuz it is better. as for the quarter mile time, my friend has a 99 trans am which is auto trans also with 325, and stock he ran a 13.7 in the quarter. in 0-60 times that is roughly 5.4 when it was dynoed. hope this helps and nice luck. and remember its the driver not the car...
