Answer
Even if the car is in "fair" condition, according to kelley blue book it is worth at least $4700. looking as nice as you say it does, the trade-in value could exceed his $5000 asking price. if you bought the car and later regret the decision, you should be able to sell it easily.that being said, if you want to keep the car, expect several repairs, some easy and others extensive. the headlight can be easily fixed by flipping the plastic gear that drives it. on these, when one side of the gear wears out, you can use the other side. the emergency brake probably just needs adjustment. both are generally required to pass inspection.i would plan on buying a new transmission soon. walking an automatic without fluid is the worst thing you can do. better set aside $2500 for that. but honestly, you cannot buy a used american car and expect it to be reliable. i have a 2000 trans am myself, i drive it every day. it is the best car i have ever had, but i am glad it is paid for, because i have had to invest in a new clutch and rear end. shocks are next. and tires are not cheap, either.if you want reliable, get a honda instead. if you want to grin from ear to ear, buy the trans am, and start setting aside money now for the repairs to come.
