Nissan

Nissan altima?

Im in need of some deperate advice, my altima has been sitting for a month now due to really bad idling and also the catayltic converter is clogged, i had nissan pick up the vehicle free of charge and also had them diagnose it, the car has 111,084 miles on it, the only problem ive had prior to the converter failing or clogging is that i would have alot of oil consumption, maybe like 1qt every 400 miles or so, it all started from when i was on the highway and all of a sudden the engine started heating up, and i went from 75 mph down to 40 and then i exited off the hwy and was only able to go 10 mph, and the oil was gone, i went into a store added some oil let the car cool down for 3 hours, and then drove it home, anyway long story short, service tech told me that the engine was gone and they quoted me at 4200.00 to 5200.00 dollars, due to the converter shooting things into the engine possibly scorching parts, he said he would cover the converter and engine replacement for that $now the only reason why he didnt charge me for towing was that it had a recall for the crank sensor, i think that is outrageous for him to say i have to replace the engine, wouldnt a engine rebuilt fix the problem guys??????? i will never ever purchase a nissan again. what should i do, im low on cash, i think theyre ripping me off or trying too at least, its just crazy to me that i had the car checked on a month prior of it shutting down like that on the highway and all i got from a different nissan dealership was to replace the head gasket and also the valves, i need help really bad, and some respectful nice opinions thanks :), oh yeah i also had the converter replaced before at 97,000 miles, and now its repeating itself,if i can get it rebuilt that would be great, one nice mechanic quoted me at 1700.00 which is alot better than 4 or 5k :) thanks guys
Answer
If the engine is bad i would get one from a junk yard it should only cost about 350-500 and your local shop can put it in for about 450 and it should come with a 90 day warranty from the junkyard
