Mercury cougar xr7 on its last legs. help!?
My 91 mercury cougar xr7 has a serious problem. the car makes an awful winding vibrating noise when its on. when u press the accelerator, the noise stops, and it starts again once u take ur foot off. when u start the car, the accelerator sticks at first. when u put it in park, it idols high. finally when u turn off the car, it gives off a loud moaning creaking, mooing (haha) noise. we took off the supercharger belt, and added supercharger fluid. didnt help. any idea on what it could be?? we are desperate for answers and have little money.
Answer
Your idle air control valve is making the noise. it is not a major repair. best way i can describe the sound is like an oil hooting constantly, or a moose mating call or something. we ford techs usually call the iac valve the "hooter" valve for the noise it makes when it is malfunctioning. this will cause your high idle concern as well.
