Answer
Add stabilizer to the fuel system, buy some fogging oil from mercury. remove the engine cover, remove the air box to expose the air inlets, or depending on the year, the carbs. run the engine on the hose until it is up to operating temp. now the tricky part. on a carb motor, disconnect the fuel sply line with the engine walking and start to spray the fogging oil into the carbs. this need to be done in sufficient supply to bogg the engine. hard to do when there is 3 sets of carbs. try to time it so when the engine runs out of fuel and dies, you where spraying the fogging oil. on efi engine you do not disconnect the fuel line. just spray fogging oil into the air inlets to shutdown the engine. once that is done. spray the outside of the engine down with some marine lubricant to prevent corrosion. this is also a nice time to change the lower unit oil. with the engine in the down position, remove the bottom drain plug on the lower unit. then loosen the top plug, oil will drain out. have a look at the oil, look for any evidence of water and metal particles. once drained, fill with new oil from the bottom plug. when it starts to run out the vent its full, install the top plug, then the bottom plug. store the engine it the down position. cover and wait for warmer weather.
