Mercury

I have a 1975? mercury 4.5 hp outboard. the stop (kill) switch was removed before i bought it. i have a stop switch for it now, but need to know where to connect it? any help?

Just to be sure, there were a few different color codes then, do you have the serial number? post it and i will tell you monday. well i learned something this morning, in 1975, the 45 stop switch was an option, 1976 it was standard. if you want to connect one, the wire diagram shows one side to ground and the other side to the white wire to the coils negative terminal.
