I know that the factory code is listed on the computer mod. but i cant find it. it isnt listed in the manual and ford is being an arse hole and telling me i have to pay 60 bucks for some idiot at the dealership to tell me.pssht. i dont need it that much.if you know how i can get my code or where the computer is it would be awesome!once again i have a 2000 silver mercury sable ls

I hope the following text will give you a better understanding of how the system works, and hopefully answer your question.keyless entrythe keyless entry keypad is hardwired to the gem. the gem interprets the inputs from the keyless entry keypad and then controls the associated operation. the keyless entry keypad will be illuminated for five seconds when any button is pressed. additionally, it will request the illuminated entry feature to turn the courtesy lamps on. if a lock all doors code is entered, the illumination will turn off, as well as request the illuminated entry feature to turn off the courtesy lamps. when pressed, the keyless entry keypad supplies the ground signal to the gem or the gem receives a signal from the keyless entry remote transmitter. then the gem outputs a ground signal to the appropriate lock or unlock relay which supplies the power to the actuator to lock or unlocks all doors, including the luggage compartment. the keyless entry remote transmitter also unlocks the liftgate or activates the panic alarm by sending a signal to the gem. keyless entry keypad code programmingenter the permanent factory keyless entry keypad code.press the 1/2 button within five seconds to activate the programming mode. holding the 1/2 button for more than two seconds will erase all stored customer codes. the door locks will lock, then unlock, confirming the codes are erased. the existing codes do not need to be erased to program new codes.enter the new five-digit keyless entry keypad code.to associate the new code with personality position 1 or 2, press the 1/2 button within 7.5 seconds of entering the 5th digit of the new code for position 1 or 3/4 button for position 2. the door locks will lock and unlock confirming the new code is programmed.if another code is to be programmed, begin entering the code within 7.5 seconds of the last button pressed.after all new keyless entry codes are programmed: transmitters can be programmed within 7.5 seconds of the last keypad code entered.press keyless entry keypad buttons 7/8 and 9/0 at the same time to exit the program mode.wait for 7.5 seconds; the generic electronic module (gem) will exit the program mode automatically.the gem module is located under the dash where the fuse panel is located. there are three large bulkhead style electrical connectors with a bolt in each one. there are also three smaller connectors on the side of the module. if you do manage to gain access to the module, look for a decal with five numbers on it. that will be your keypad code. hope this helps.
