The main problem is that on a class the ecu is mounted on the intake air track and the maf is part of it. so, you can not replace only the sensor, must replace the whole ecu. i am looking for the manufactorer of the maf sub block (which will cost a portion of the whole unit). or, can i buy another maf and use only the sensor from it? or is there a place in ireland or uk where i can send it for repair?

Do you have a mbz dealer near you? the parts department should have a parts breakdown with pics of your ecu and a class engine. it may not be possible to get the one maf sensor. you may have to buy the whole ecu assembly. but you can try if you can find an auto parts house near you.
