The steering is not smooth and when the engine is jogging, it feels like the steering wheel is rusty when turned. do you know if there is a recall on this defect on the car. i brought it for service and they said they change the seals because they were leaking. the steering harshness and abrasiveness did not change.

Sounds like a bad gear box or steering rack. jack the car up so that the front wheels are clear of the ground. turn the wheels back and forth and see if the roughness is gone with the pressure off the steering assembly. if it is still there it is probably in the gear box or column. doing a little research will keep you from having a mechanic diagnose it. the basic rule of thumb at most mercedes repair garages is to start at the point farthest from the problem and replace everything until you fix the problem.
