I have an 81 jeep scrambler. this problem started last week. when the headlights are on dim the headlights do not come on and the dash lights flicker. the wires going to the dimmer switch get very hot. when i put on the bright lights everything works right. ive put on a new dimmer switch as well as a new headlight switch. what should i try next?

Pull the plug in off of the headlamps and see what the terminals look like. you may need to wire brush them to get nice contact. check the ground wire at the headlights, a bad ground connect can cause what you are describing.follow the wires on the low beam all the way back to where they go into the drivers area and look for signs the wires are touching something that might have bared the wires.nice luck, hope you love your jeep as much as i love mine.............
