Most likely it came from the factory with a 2.8 v6... a chevy motor... a fun and effective swap would be a small block chevy.. 289... 305... 350... etc. it will be a bit of work but the chassis is close to an s-10 and with a bit of work and patience a 400 hp small block would rock your truck...
